ST JOHN’S, JERUSALEM, KENT

Client:          The National Trust

Class:          Scheduled Ancient Monuments

Service:       Survey of Historic Fabric: Historic Buildings: Archaeology:

The National Trust commissioned a detailed external fabric survey of St John’s Jerusalem a grade II* listed building within a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The only standing remains of the ecclesiastical buildings are of the Commandery of the Knights Hospitallers primarily of the thirteenth-century chapel, and possibly a tower enclosed within the present seventeenth-century house. The hall and ancillary buildings have all gone leaving ghosting of ground depressions, probably marking their locations. The survey aimed to understand the various phases of its construction.
