The National Trust commissioned an extensive and detailed archaeological and historical estate landscape   garden survey  to increase  the understanding of the site, extend the protection of the heritage asset and to provide recommendations for the management, conservation interpretation and public access to the property. 

This  comprehensive report included all historic features from the pre-prehistoric period to the present day. Extensive archive, fieldwork and mapping was undertaken.
