This oast house, a prominent feature within the Kent landscape, was built in the 1880s and is a Grade II listed building. A Schedule of Repairs was approved by the Conservation Officer for the historic elements of the building and plans amended for the new extension. The brick roundel showed signs of cracking. A series of discreet stainless steel wires were introduced to hold it together. The stonework foundations were consolidation as were the bricks and new services introduced. This work provided for a specialist set of skills for historic building craftsmanship. A new physical damp proof course was introduced by cutting through the mortar bed joint around the building with a handsaw.
